When Eidos Institute first began exploring collective intelligence in the early 2000s, we could never have imagined where that research would lead. Today, Mindhive, commercialized from Eidos in 2017, connects over 10,000 collaborators worldwide.
The Research Foundation
Our early work focused on understanding how groups make decisions differently than individuals. We discovered that:
- Diverse groups consistently outperform homogeneous expert panels: on complex problems
- Structured dialogue processes: can overcome the groupthink that plagues traditional meetings
- Technology can scale human connection: without losing the depth of in-person engagement
The Mindhive Innovation
In 2017, we spun off Mindhive as a separate technology company, allowing it to:
- Scale globally while Eidos maintained its Australian focus
- Attract commercial investment for platform development
- Serve enterprise clients while Eidos served civic purposes
What We Have Learned
After years of observing Mindhive in action, several key insights have emerged:
