The Sustainable Research Theme reflects intensified debate about the need for environmental sustainability for long-term ecological and social sustainability. Its inclusion reflects the integration of ‘sustainable’ issues across a range of public policy and research. High profile debates about climate change, species extinction, drought, deforestation and Kyoto testify to the increasing importance of the Sustainable Research Theme.

Addressing issues of sustainability potentially has economic benefits for science and technology industries both state and national levels. Australia is particularly concerned with water sustainability and preservation. Internationally, the OECD emphasizes sustainable development for long-term survival of future generations, and global co-operation to ensure this.

Eidos is interested in research that addresses sustainable education and training systems and education for sustainability. Sustainability in the tropics, including environmental, economic, and social sustainability.
