Former Eidos Foundation Research Committee member, Prof. Andrew Leigh states, “what is needed in tackling our toughest social problems is not more ideology, but an evidence-based attempt to find out what works and what does not. In the same way as we employ rigorous research methodologies to try to find a cure for cancer or AIDS, so we will the same with our most difficult policy challenges”.

In our current political and economic context and climate of ‘quick-fix’ solutions to deep and persistent broken policies there exists a critical need to establish a bridge between the public service desire for workable solutions and the academic aim to improve knowledge.  In short, we have reached a vital juncture in the history of Australian policy formulation.  Closing the disconnect between academics and public servants has never been more important to creating a sustainable medium-long term narrative for our future.

In recognition of this, Eidos Institute is dedicated to funding serious policy research in a practical push towards answering some of our nations most pervasive and influential policy questions and gaps in analysis and knowledge.
