As we reflect on the events of the previous financial year and look to the future of the Eidos Institute network and method of best practice, this CEO report and annual governance document is a timely summary of where we stand at present. Strengthening our capacity to manage projects and expand our value base requires delving into the five years of the tools, methods and quality systems we now have at our disposal.
In the 2009/2010 financial year Eidos expanded its network to include the important component of industry partners. While industry partnership is a growth area of the Eidos approach to innovative collaboration, it is also an important one. Creating an interface between policy and decision makers in both the government and the private sector is a critical underlying motivator of Eidos and its activities.
As we look towards the final quarter of 2010 and ahead to 2011, the Eidos approach towards business development and fundraising is set to include income stream from the following streams:
- Membership
- Education and professional development and events
- Fundraising and business products
- Research and development
Our approach towards value for our members is shifting towards a more balanced mix of intangible and tangible benefits. We are seeking to strengthen our capacity to manage projects and are moving towards our strength as a policy resource facility in order to more effectively streamline our research projects.
This year we continued our commitment to facilitating higher order discussion, debate and research. We implemented our successful ‘Forum@Ann’ series, which involved the gathering of the leading minds within the realms of policy, politics and research in the name of contributing to grassroots political discussion and public debate. Our formal event series continued to thrive. Our most recent two speakers were The Hon. Joe Hockey, Shadow Treasurer and The Hon. Julia Gillard, Prime Minister of Australia. General networking and day-today business activity continued through the work of Eidos Business Development Manager Mike Jeffrey and myself as CEO, reflecting the high priority and integral necessity of maintaining a constant presence within the extensive Eidos network.
Our strategy for international engagement has evolved into a genuine vision for the future, with an MOU signed by four South African universities committed to realising the goal of Eidos South Africa - University of Pretoria, Walter Sisulu University, University of Western Cape and Durban University. Our partnership with Trade Queensland in this area, particularly in terms of our work in United Arab Emirates has been an important component of gaining this international momentum.
Eidos is no single person’s idea or operation. Eidos is an exercise in innovative and independent networking - completely collaborative at every level. We are constantly seeking to evolve our narrative and stand at the cutting edge of innovation and collaborative networking principles.
In concluding this report, I would like to make mention of our Eidos Green Paper New Perspectives which is currently in the co-authorship and consultation process. Eidos is moving to strengthen and refine its agenda in order to ensure we continue to cater to the best interests of your university, industry or organisation. In areas such as research, industry engagement, business development and networking influence, we are seeking to gather information and better reflect the ideas and voices of our network.
We look forward to further refining our services and working towards our ultimate aim of connecting the public and private sector in ways which push the boundaries of policy formulation and provide new and innovative solutions within the realm of policy research.
