Workforce Transitions: Occupational Mobility in Queensland

The aim of this project is to examine the occupational mobility of workers in Queensland. It is focusing on associate professional and trade occupations within the civil construction, automotive and aged care sectors in four regions - Brisbane, Central Queensland, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba. The project is identifying what factors influence skilled workers to change, not to change or to return to their occupation and what are the skills and attributes of these workers.

    Teacher Education for Sustainability Project

This project is piloting an approach recommended through the findings of the Whole-School approaches to sustainability: A review of models for professional development in pre-service teacher education report. The model is a combined action-research and whole-of-system approach which seeks to engage actors and decision-makers across the teacher education system (including federal and state government agencies, teacher accreditation bodies, curriculum bodies, teacher educators, school and community-based organizations engaged n sustainability within formal education) in a process of learning and change.

Linking retired professionals to work opportunities via the web

The purpose of this project is to investigate the feasibility of establishing an online gateway that links retired and semi-retired policymakers, academics and researchers (who are National Seniors members) to work opportunities offered by the Eidos Institute and its eight university members. Examples of work opportunities include advising project teams, facilitating workshops, mentoring emerging researchers, and refereeing reports and publications. Through the gateway, the Eidos Institute and the National Seniors Productive Ageing Centre aim to engage NSA members in a dialogue to find and implement solutions to the challenge of human capital facing the future of Australian society.

    Productive Ageing Scoping

The purpose of this scoping (baseline) study is to identify what encourages and discourages older citizens (55 + years) to work in paid employment and/or as a volunteer. Findings will inform the development of a critical set of questions that need to be investigated to support productive ageing policies. These questions will be framed into a strategy consisting of set of topics for networks of professional retirees to investigate and report back on. Given the Rudd Government’s Summit in March and the Australian Budget in May, the National Seniors could launch this strategy and consult with professional groups from July to August 2008.
